WHAT TO BRING
Anns Swimming School
Hair
IMPORTANT!
Girls and boys with long hair, or hair that will be in their eyes, must have their hair tied up and or pinned up and out of their faces before they go in to class. It is very hard for them and for us to try to teach them something if they have to constantly wipe it out of their faces. It also takes time away from their lesson if they are having to stop and move hair out of their face all the time!
Feeding too close to class time
The first few days especially, when they still might be nervous or crying, please do not feed them or give them full bottles of milk, etc. too close to their class time. They tend to throw up because they are upset. They should not eat or drink at least one hour before class, so that their food/drink has time to settle!
Solar Shirts
Solar shirts are welcome, but if it is an overcast, cooler, windy or rainy type day the shirts do make the kids colder! They are not wet suit material and it's like wearing a wet shirt in a cold rain! Especially the younger kids who are sitting on the step (but also the older kids if they are out of the water diving) because their upper bodies are not under the water and when the air hits the wet shirt, even we get cold if we have one on! So even we don't wear them ourselves on these types of days!
Towel
You will need to bring a regular size towel for your child with their name on it. They will be bringing their towel in to the class with them everyday. We will be putting their towel on them when they get out of the pool and they will be walking back out to you. So do not give them a towel that is too big that will drag on the ground and may cause them to trip or fall. We do not dry each child off, we just put their towel on their shoulders because it's just a short walk back to you. So please just give them a towel that is not bigger then they are!
Shoes, shirts, etc.,will stay with you.
No Goggles or Masks
They do not need or wear goggles in the pool, so please do not bring any with you. The only way we will let them wear them is if it is required by a doctor for medical reasons. We take pride in the fact that our water does not sting their eyes. We also want them to learn to swim without goggles and with their eyes open for safety reasons! Please read more about this subject on the page about ways to help to get your child ready before they even get here!
Do not bring water wings or any type of flotation gear with you. They will not be allowed to wear them.
Please do not make promises to them that they won't be going under the water. They will be putting their faces under water at least a few times, even on the 1st day. So you will just be breaking a promise to them if you tell them otherwise!
Do not bring siblings, friends, cousins, etc., with you on the 1st day that are not enrolled in the class in hopes of having them swim. If the class is full and they can't swim, we hate to make them sad or disappointed if we aren't able to let them swim!
PLEASE!
Restroom
We do have an outdoor restroom for both the children and their families. It is not an outhouse, but a working toilet. No children will be allowed to use the restroom unless they are with an adult in case they need help! We used to let the family leave, but have found it best to have you stay during their class to help them.
Non-Potty trained Children
If you're child is not potty trained or just recently ( no less then 6 months) where accidents may happen,or they might not tell us if they have to go to the bathroom they will not be allowed to swim without a swim diaper on. These may be disposable or the re-usable ones. The swim diaper must fit snuggly. Disposable swim diapers must be worn under a bathing suit for added protection. If the diaper is too loose, the poop will come out! We don't want this to happen in the pool!
If your child has had any type of stomach ache or loose poop during the day/night before their class, please do not bring them to class if you think there might be a possibility of an accident in the pool! It is not a fun thing to have happen.
Sunblock
Please do not slather sunblock on them right at class time. It will just wash right off if it wasn't applied at least 15 to 20 minutes before class. Be very careful not to put too much sunblock on their foreheads or around their eyes. No matter what they claim, most do and will sting if it gets in to their eyes.
Mosquito Spray - Please bring your own spray.
We do have cold drinks for sale for $1.00
